Silent expression - 2012-2013
On monochrome black backgrounds lie flowing lines that intertwine, interlace, conjuring up shapes which seem to dig the space at its core. Forms carried away in a swirling motion, like the gesture that gives them a configuration, as if painting had to draw from elementary forces in order to extricate the essence of the world.
These forms suggest nothing abstract. The pictorial material becomes vegetal material, iridescent living material made of shadow and light. Expansion of emerging forms, opening sometimes in background on a gateway to the invisible.
In other compositions, pictorial material turns into geological traces, fragile imprints crossing the monochrome white space, field of force and power that evokes the thought of their possible erasure, once the time of their illumination by painting has passed.
The impetus of the movement is particularly evident in rectangular formats, like this composition where organic forms grow into strata on a black background, mysterious germination stopped in its course.
Emergence and erasure rhythm the painting of Shahla Dadsetan. This reflects her desire to locate her practice of abstraction beyond the cleavage abstraction / figuration. «Expression is silent» because it is embodied in sensitive material, in this materiality of painting which abstraction essentially plays with. Shahla Dadsetan pictures it as an area of intelligibility, a figure which suggests an imaginary transcription of the cosmic world and an invitation to contemplate it visually.
